Project Engineer Co-op- Multiple Locations

Job Summary:

As a Project Engineer Co-op at SteelFab, you’ll immerse yourself in the diverse and dynamic world of the construction industry. Working closely with our Project Management and Estimating teams, you’ll gain hands-on experience across various projects. During your three co-op rotations, you’ll progressively build your expertise, taking on key responsibilities that will enhance your skills and prepare you for a successful career.

Key Responsibilities:

First Rotation: Estimating

  1. Collaboration: Engage with the Estimating department to gather subcontractor pricing for new project estimates.
  2. Scope Analysis: Review and analyze subcontractor bids to ensure alignment with project specifications.
  3. Material and Labor Take-Offs: Perform detailed material and labor take-offs.
  4. Pricing Reviews: Prepare pricing recaps for senior leadership.
  5. Site Visits: Visit job sites to build relationships with clients and vendors
  6. Fabrication Shop Experience: Gain hands-on experience with the fabrication flow and production processes, deepening your understanding of the entire construction lifecycle.

Second Rotation: Project Management

  1. Schedule Management: Oversee and maintain project schedules, ensuring timely delivery of all project milestones.
  2. Procurement: Draft and issue purchase orders and subcontracts to vendors.
  3. Change Management: Prepare and submit pricing for change order requests.
  4. Design Review: Evaluate design drawing revisions to identify and manage scope changes effectively.
  5. Client and Vendor Relations: Conduct job site visits to foster strong relationships with clients and vendors, ensuring alignment on project goals.
  6. Coordination: Manage the coordination of construction drawings and models, and review submittals for compliance and accuracy.
  7. Issue Resolution: Collaborate with onsite subcontractors to identify and resolve field issues.

Third Rotation: Estimating or Project Management

The work area will be determined based on the Co-ops’ performance/preference. The business needs of SteelFab at this time will be taken into consideration.

Qualifications and Requirements

Minimum Education Level: Sophomore

Major: Engineering, Construction Management, or related fields

Required: High level competency in PDF’s, Microsoft Project, Excel and Word, and common computer skills. Valid driver’s license

Preferred: Some experience in the construction or engineering industry through work, internships, or part-time employment
